1. What is Macmillan's Learning Hub?

Macmillan's Learning Hub is your destination for education and training to support you to develop in your role.

The Learning Hub is designed with Macmillan colleagues, Professionals and the wider cancer workforce in mind. It allows you to grow your skills and knowledge by tapping into Macmillan's trusted educational and professional development content whenever you need.

Macmillan Professionals and the wider workforce

The Learning Hub offers a wide range of education and training to suit your learning needs. It includes learning for people at any stage of their career and whatever your role in caring for, supporting or treating people living with cancer or those at end of life.

On the Learning Hub you'll find:

  • e-learning courses and education programmes
  • Virtual classrooms, webinars and events
  • On-demand resources and toolkits

The Learning Hub also offers information and links to Macmillan’s vital services that could help the people you support.

Macmillan Colleagues

As a Macmillan employee in any part of the organisation and at any level, the Learning Hub offers learning and resources to support you to perform in your role and to develop professionally.

As well as being a location to seek out relevant resources, workshops and courses to help in your job, the Learning Hub also houses the mandatory learning that all colleagues must complete.


2. About these guidelines

To keep the Learning Hub an inclusive and safe space for supportive discussions, we ask that everyone using the Learning Hub follow the guidelines below. If you have any queries or concerns about these, please email LearningSupportHub@macmillan.org.uk where we will get back to you within 3 working days.

Please remember that every time you use the Learning Hub you're agreeing to our guidelines, Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions. You should take the time to read these and make sure that you understand these documents fully.


3. Your account and personal profile

Please keep your account details private and do not give your login details to anyone else.

Your username is predefined from the personal information in your user profile. If your name is incorrect, please contact us at LearningSupportHub@macmillan.org.uk

You may edit your profile to include a photograph of yourself; however, please be aware that user names and email addresses are visible to others.


4. Posting comments and sharing material

As a member of a community, you can view content which is relevant to you and you can share content which you think is of interest to your peers.

Views expressed on the Learning Hub using the 'comments' functionality are purely the views of the members. They don't constitute professional recommendations or advice or the opinions of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Please respect other member's views and contributions, be mindful of how others may interpret your comments and respect each other and Macmillan Cancer Support.

We encourage you to:

  1. Search before posting a question, as someone may have already asked it
  2. Say thanks to people who help
  3. Post in sentences or lowercase so as not to come across as shouting
  4. Self-moderate – report content which you think may be inappropriate through the ‘report’ button
  5. Share material, communities or groups with other users who you think will be interested or find it useful
  6. Join in the conversation - if there’s a thread that you want to respond to then post on there. If it sparks something else or another topic comes to mind that you want to share with peers, consider starting a new thread. This helps the community to develop themed content in an easy to view way

You must not:

  1. Share other people's personal details (full names, home addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses
  2. Troll other users - don't deliberately cause upset or provoke disputes
  3. Post inappropriate content - this includes language which is obscene, defamatory, abusive, libellous, damaging, injurious, damaging, injurious, foul, swearing or discriminatory
  4. Post spam (spam is any kind of unwanted or unsolicited messages, or junk mail)
  5. Post advertisements or links to commercial websites, including through username, signature or links
  6. Copy long text from other publications/websites - doing this may breach copyright. Instead, you should post the link to the website so that it includes all credits and citations
  7. Post anything that infringes trademarks, copyrights or any other proprietary rights of any person or company
  8. Post links to anything requested by journalists, TV companies and researchers. If you are contacted, please visit our Press Office pages for more information on who to contact to seek prior permission
  9. Post links to surveys or questionnaires without permission of Macmillan Cancer Support. If you are aware of surveys or questionnaires which may be of interest to communities on the Learning Hub please email LearningSupportHub@macmillan.org.uk to gain permission to share these
  10. Pose as anyone, including each other

5. Clinical Information 

The Learning Hub contains general information about cancer and its treatments. Any medical information referred to on the Learning Hub is given for informational and educational purposes only. You understand and acknowledge that all users of the Learning Hub are responsible for their own clinical practice. The views expressed by users of the Learning Hub are not endorsed by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan Cancer Support is not liable for risks or issues associated with any user acting upon the information they read on the Learning Hub. You should seek specific medical advice on any particular medical matter which concerns you. Medical information changes regularly. Therefore, whilst Macmillan Cancer Support takes steps to ensure the information Macmillan posts on the Learning Hub is up to date, the information on this website or on the linked websites should not be considered complete or exhaustive.

We do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism or other forms of hate-speech or content that could be interpreted as such. Harassment and threats of physical violence will result in a warning being issued to a user, or they may be temporarily or permanently suspended from the Learning Hub.

Inappropriate content and moderation

The Learning Hub is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Learning Hub is not pre-moderated, which means that we don’t review posts from users before they’re published, so we expect users to comply with the rules set out above. We rely on users reporting inappropriate content through the ‘report’ button. Inappropriate content means anything which you feel is inappropriate, offensive or unlawful. Reported content is then moderated by the Macmillan Cancer Support team.

If you find inappropriate content, you should report it by clicking on the ‘report’ button, which is found on every piece of content and every comment. Reporting content is anonymous, so the author will not know that you have done this, only that their comment has been reported for moderation.

We will examine reported content and make a decision regarding whether or not it is appropriate. Our office hours are 9-5 Monday-Friday (excluding UK national holidays); therefore, there may be a delay in our team being able to investigate.

If necessary, we will remove the reported comment/threads, a warning could be issued to a user, or they may be temporarily or permanently suspended from the Learning Hub.


6. Safeguarding /support

All mentions of intention to commit suicide, assisted suicide or self-harm will be removed from the site. It is not your responsibility to offer counselling to others instead if you are worried about someone, please refer them to the below for the appropriate support and advice:

Macmillan colleague-specific safeguarding

For Macmillan colleagues, the Safeguarding and Welfare Team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If you require immediate advice and support, or you are worried about yourself or someone else, you can call the team – the phone number is available on Green Rooms. In addition to contacting us by phone, you can also email safeguarding@macmillan.org.uk – please note this inbox is only monitored during core business hours.

7. What we do with your information

Macmillan Professionals

If you decide that you no longer wish to have access to the Learning Hub, we will deactivate your account so that all of your personally identifiable information is removed. This means your profile information is all wiped and cannot be retrieved. Any comments or material that you have posted will remain on the Learning Hub. It will appear as posted by a ‘deactivated user’ and cannot be associated directly with your email, username or any profile information.

Macmillan colleagues

Your access to the Learning Hub is aligned with your Macmillan account. Should you leave Macmillan, your access to the Learning Hub will be automatically revoked, and you don’t need to take action. Your profile information is all wiped after 28 days. Any comments or material that you have posted will remain on the Learning Hub. It will appear as posted by a ‘deactivated user’ and cannot be associated directly with your email, username or any profile information.
