Evidencing Work Based Learning
An accredited module run in collaboration with the
University of West of England
What will I learn?
Do you want to make a change to a service you offer to improve the lives of people living with cancer? Do you need any support to make it happen?
If so, then the Macmillan evidencing work based learning module (EWBL), will help to support a service development project in your own place of work. This is a fully funded 30 credit academic module at degree or masters level. It’s run in collaboration with the University of West of England (UWE).
EWBL is not about Macmillan or the university telling you what you need to know or what skills you need to do your job. UWE's role in the module is to provide the support and facilities you need to undertake the learning that you have identified.
Using action learning sets, tutor-led sessions, and self-directed study, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop critical and creative thinking skills to complete a project linked to improving services for people living with cancer
- Learn about project management and change management theory to support implementing a change in your place of work
- Network and share learning and experiences with a national, multi-professional group
- Complete academic assignment work, gain 30 credits at degree or masters level
Who is it for?
This module is for people who have recognised a change that can be made to improve the lives of people living with cancer and want support to make this happen. It’s open to anyone in a role linked to services that support people with cancer.
The proposed projects should align to Macmillan’s strategic objectives so applicants should have an awareness of these.
To be eligible for the module you must also:

- Have a workplace mentor
- Have consent of your line manager for a proposed service improvement and study leave of 5 days
- Have completed the EWBL information e-learning module
- Submit an application detailing your proposed project
- Be aware of the commitment required
Our learning is at three levels: Essential, Enhanced and Expert. This is Expert level learning.
